This section of English 111 taught me a lot about myself. First, it taught me to be a better critical thinker through the
forum assignments. I had the think hard and analyze each assignment to try to get the answers to the questions that were asked.
My critical thinking skills have definitely improved thanks to this class. Before this class I knew that I was proficient
in reading and writing, but this class challenged me in both categories with the essays and the forum assignments. The essays
were a bit harder for me to write then I expected, but I made it through and produced good work in the end. For the first
couple of forum assignments it was hard for me to fully digest the material. As the course went on though, my reading comprehension
improved more and more. I feel that I am a thoroughly stronger English student overall because of this class.
My favorite essay to write had to be the third essay. The reason it was my favorite was because I had to do research in
order to write a good paper. And as I was researching I was finding out more and more interesting facts that affected me directly.
I became passionate about the subject by the end of the paper and really wanted Obama’s plan to go through. I started
to just write things from the heart and backing it up with statistics which made my arguments more persuasive. For example
when talking about how much the credit would help the students I said, “If it is looked at it from a monetary standpoint
that is $40 an hour to help out your community. There are not many people that would not take a job taking $40 an hour, especially
students in high school.” Because of all of the researching and trying to find a good topic to write about this essay
was also the most difficult to write. But, that also made it the most rewarding because I put so much work into it.
The class overall was very interesting and helped me learn more about myself as a student. This is one of the few core
classes that I am glad my major requires. The overall experience was a very good one and I look forward to English 112.
